November is the very best month to visit Hawaii. We spent the first week of November 2014 on the tropical island of Maui, adjacent to Ka’anapali Beach, rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by Traveler’s Choice!
The Honua Kai resort in Lahaina was simply the best we’ve ever experienced. Every day I walked three miles on a boardwalk that paralleled the ocean, then returned to our room to drink fragrant Kona coffee.
We swam, sunned, went sight-seeing, shopped and ate seafood, including our birthday dinner at Dukes. In between we found time to paint small watercolors en-plein air (on site). Here are the paintings, all 7 x 10, done in watercolor.
I sat under some trees with my toes in the sand watching the moms watching their children frolick in the water. When I got hot I took a dip myself!
Red umbrellas surrounded by landscaped areas filled with blooming hibiscus (red and yell0w) rimmed the swimming pools at the Honua Kai resort. They were SO beautiful I had to paint them, including the red umbrella!
Maui’s Winery (Tedeschi Winery)
Maui’s Winery, also called ‘Tedeschi Winery’ is hidden high in the hills on the slopes of Haleakala. It’s the place to taste (and buy) the best pineapple w. We always make it a point to visit. This time we sat on the grounds and did a little painting. By the time we were done a light rain started to fall. We didn’t care one bit!
- If you go to Hawaii in November, go in early November. You’ll miss the Thanksgiving crowds and the flight prices are a bit lower.
