Red Poppies
For much of early 2018 I was obsessed with one red poppy. I painted it over and over and over, in watercolor, and acrylic
The paintings of Joseph Raffael fascinate me. His large scale watercolors are like mosaics of color pieces, millions of them, that when viewed from a distance turn into glowing jewels. I wanted to make a painting like that.
After I finished these studies, I completed one more large scale red poppy in acrylic. You can see that painting here.

During the time this paper was stretched and I was contemplating mysterious shapes, I digressed into several other poppy expressions. But my favorite is the one above. It’s alive, like I want my paintings to be.
