It was so exciting to finally see the John Kalama room at McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge along with other attendees at a special pre-opening party in April, 2018.
Room 214: John Kalama Room
The hotel was full of overnight guests. I had to ask the occupant of Room 214 if I could see it. Turns out, the person staying in Room 214 (John Kalama Room), was Shannon McMenamin. She most graciously allowed me in to see it and take photos. Thanks, Shannon!
Because the only way to see any of the paintings is to go into their namesake rooms, all of the paintings are reproduced and hang in the hallways. We found John Kalama on the third floor.
In my hand I’m holding the pre-opening party invitation. It features one of the paintings done by another artist.
A photographer took a photo of all the artists. Here’s the group as we gathered together by the totem poles. The photo will display somewhere inside the lodge.
The project was a highlight of my artistic career. I might even paint some more historical portraits! I invite you to learn more about my painting process at:
