About the Artist

Artist Statement / Biography

Marie enjoys filling her paintings with powerful and often feminine subjects. Her florals, landscapes and nautical paintings are lush and deeply colored. Her style is eclectic and varies from painting to painting. But in each painting she tries to capture one reflective moment, punctuated with symbolic elements that portray powerful messages, where viewers can find a connecting emotional bond.

Recently Marie’s paintings have been inspired by the subjects she encountered while working in the port industry. Ships, water, boats, wind turbines, docks and skies were scenes she encountered every day, and which have surfaced onto her canvases.

Marie always knew she would become an artist. While other girls played house, her artistic French mother taught her to paint. As a teenager her best friends were always paint and canvas. Although she is mostly self-taught, she studied fine arts, design, and art history at Montana State University, the University of Montana, and Gonzaga University.

Marie has been involved in numerous group and featured artist exhibitions, and has won many awards. Her work is displayed in local restaurants, gift shops, banks, galleries and businesses. Over the years her paintings have been acquired by friends, family, local collectors, businesses and corporate offices. She paints in her studio in Kalama, Washington, overlooking the scenic Columbia River.

Marie’s love for art carries over into her daily life. She reads about artists, studies techniques of the Old Masters, photographs subjects for future paintings, participates in artist groups, and visits art galleries and art museums whenever she travels. Recently she visited major art galleries in New York City, and hopes someday to do the same in Europe.
